Orange Class- Toasting and Den Building 🔥🏕

Image
Today was such a fantastic session. The weather was chilly but beautiful. The children enjoyed their first campfire toasting as well as making dens with the new tarpaulins, pegs and ropes purchased for Forest School by the Friends of Sutton Infant School. Someone said “This is like REAL camping!” Miss Villalba took lots of photographs! Thanks to Luca’s and Elsie’s mums for helping today and of course to all of the parents who have volunteered so far.

Red Class- Terrific Tuesday in the Woods

Image
A wonderful time was had by Red Class today, with more mud kitchen fun. Lots of children enjoyed making tangly traps with wool, practising their fine motor skills and problem solving skills too! We also enjoyed watching, chatting and warming our hands by the fire.

Orange Class- Mud Kitchen Mixers and Excited Pond Explorers

Image
A lovely session with Orange Class today. After one of our amazing parents revamped our mud kitchen, the children spent a long time making muddy mixtures… There were some exciting discoveries from our pond, including a newt… Some of us learnt to tie simple knots to make our own bows… And some of us found sticks the same length as ourselves! We finished our session by mindfully watching the fire, using all of our senses.

Red Class- Fantastic Fire and Ice

Image
Not too many photographs were taken today as we were all so busy! Today the pond was partly frozen and the children were fascinated, safely fishing ice out of the water and talking about what might happen to it next. We also found some pond snails and spotted some pine cones that were trapped in the ice. Others enjoyed nature hunts and mud sliding was also very popular. At the end of the session we had our first fire of the year. The children loved watching the flames and talked about what they could see, smell and hear.

Orange Class- Brilliant Bug Hunters

Image
It was a beautiful, sunny winter’s afternoon in the forest. Orange Class were keen climbers, bird spotters, bug hunters and collectors today. Some of us made some detailed observations of the birds we saw. Bugs today included a snail named “Shelly” and a millipede! We were very responsible and made sure to return all creatures to their natural habitats. The atmosphere was very calm and relaxed today and a wonderful time was had by all. 🐌🐦🌳☀
